24 January 2017, Hong Kong: As in previous years, sports editors/reporters were invited to vote for their favourite athletes and teams at the “Samsung 2016 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” (HKSSA 2016) Media Luncheon today. The four categories in which media played a role in the public voting are “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport” and “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event”. With Lunar New Year just round the corner, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation) took this opportunity to treat this luncheon as a “end of the year reunion lunch” to express its appreciation to the sport editors and reporters for their continuous support to sports in Hong Kong.
From now until 10 February 2017, the public are encouraged to visit the official website at https://sportstar2016.hkolympic.org to cast their votes. All successful voters will have a chance to win prizes, including products sponsored by Samsung with a total value over HK$50,000 (Trade Promotion Competition Licence no.: 48160, 48161).
Winners of the six categories of the Awards will be announced at the Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held on Tuesday, 21 March 2017 at the Grand Hall of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre where the overseas and local dignitaries and the sports family gathered together to watch the honour bestowed on our outstanding athletes besides celebrating the Year of the Rooster in SF&OC Annual Dinner.
