15 January 2017, Hong Kong: In a Press Conference held today at apm in Kwun Tong, the voting for the 4 categories of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award were opened to public starting today until February 10, 2017. The Public Voting Announcement Press Conference of “Samsung 2016 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” (Awards) disseminated voting mechanism to the community. Officiating VIPs included Mr. Raymond LAM, Head of Retail Marketing/Associate Director of Retail Marketing Group, Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited, Ms. LEE Fung Ming, Winnie, Acting Assistant Director (Leisure Services) 2, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Ms. Vivien C.C. LAU, BBS, JP, Chairperson of Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Organizing Committee cum Vice President of the Federation. Nominated athletes and teams also attended the Press Conference to introduce themselves and to appeal to the public to cast their votes.
Organized by the Federation, subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, together with the full support of Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited as the Title Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, this annual “Sport Oscar” aims to recognize the outstanding performance of Hong Kong athletes in 2016 and creates role models for the youth in the community. This year, the Federation received a total of 122 nominations from 45 National Sports Associations competing for the six Awards categories, of which four categories namely the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport”, and “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event” allowed the Hong Kong community to vote for their favourite athletes or team/s. The athlete who gets the highest votes among the eight winners of the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” would be awarded the “Samsung Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award”.
The Awards Presentation Ceremony which is one of the celebration events for the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region would be held on March 21, 2017 in the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre where the winners of the six categories would receive their awards in front of Government officials, dignitaries of the community and the member associations of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
From now until February 10, 2017, the public could visit the official website at https://sportstar2016.hkolympic.org to cast their votes. Each successful voter would automatically enter into the lucky draw and have a chance to win prizes sponsored by Samsung with a total value over HK$50,000 (Trade Promotion Competition Licence no.: 48160, 48161).
